Happy anniversary. To me!
OK.
Another one of those on-line dog lists. This time, it is the Top 25 dog breeds – LEAST popular to own.AND PONs MADE the list.We came in at #15 – between Sealyham Terriers
and Chinooks. And the reason why we made
this infamous list? Heavy grooming needs.Well that may be true but poodles DIDN’T make the list – which is crazy
if grooming needs determine popularity. It also said we are difficult to train.
They need to watch my rally video!OK.
OK.I know we CAN be a BIT stubborn at
times – but really, if you have food, we are EASILY trained!
The
number one dog on the list was the Norwegian Lundehund. And the reason? They are non-hypoallergenic.Seriously.Hello – what about Labrador Retrievers – one of THE most popular breeds
ever.They are not exactly
hypoallergenic!So THAT argument also
seems wrong – even though I really know nothing about Norwegian Lundehunds.I’m just trying to debunk the list.
It looks to me that most of the breeds listed are generally, less common-
in North America anyway, than other breeds.Examples include the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno – I’ve never met one-
Glen of Imaal terrier – again I am doubtful there are three in all of Nova
Scotia (there may not even be one!)- and the American Foxhound – again I’ve
never met one… I think in GENERAL, the breeds on the list are just more
rare.Which equals fewer breeders. Now
mind you – there ARE problems in becoming TOO popular as well. When people want
more of a certain breed, some unscrupulous people will do anything to “fill the
need” – and will breed dogs without being concerned about health or temperament
issues.So I guess popularity IS a double-edged
sword.
Maybe it’s the wording of the list that bugs me.Nobody
likes to be “unpopular.” I like the words “unique” or “noteworthy” or
“distinctive”. Who do I see about changing that title of that list?
With all the hoopla about rally on the weekend – I CAN’T believe I forgot
a HUGE anniversary.It was MY
anniversary!On September 20, 2014 I
posted my very first blog story. It was supposed to be something I would write
every now and then. And somehow it has
become an almost every day event. For
some reason, I am able to create enough mayhem errrrr…have enough adventures –
that it seems we usually have some material to share. Thanks to those regular readers – your kind
comments and feedback keep us going!
Have a great day – and have an anniversary biscuit on me!
