Canada Day

It’s Canada Day. A national holiday celebrating Canada’s birthday.  Lots of picnics, parades and barbecues.  And lots of flag flying - including on the heads of canines.  For some reason, my human almost forgot about the dreaded flag headgear.  No offense to Canada, but what dog wants to wear a national flag on their head?  But she remembered we had them and we could hear her rustling through bins in the garage. At first we though she went in there to get our supper.  And then as we were listening for the telltale sound of kibble hitting our bowls, we quickly discerned that she was doing something else.  And Einstein, who is normally barking out meal preparation orders, fell silent.  She emerged from the garage wearing a fanny pack filled with treats.  And the flag headbands.

We raced outside, but the FG was on a leash.  There was no way he would be sticking around for this debacle. Einstein and I, on the other hand were in tune to the fanny pack so were more than willing to cooperate.

She set us up and Einstein and I watched her intently. We wanted the treats.  But the FG on the other hand initially cooperated for one or two shots (one of which she posted on Instagram) and then he  refused to look at her.  I mean REFUSED.  She was tossing kibble.  Making noises. Throwing a scarf in the air.  Jumping up and down.  Calling.  Begging.  Giving treats. Telling us how brilliant we were.  And he would NOT look at her. She finally did get the main photo you see - where he is cooperating minimally.  She also got this one when she said the game was over.  NOW he looked happy.

Thank GOODNESS we can’t find US flag headbands for July 4.

Even if you’re not Canadian, you are invited to celebrate with us today - and that means EXTRA treats.  And thankfully for you, no headgear.

Have a good one.  Peace and paws up!
