Labor Day and stuff

So today is Labor Day in the US and Canada.  A day to celebrate workers – and give many of them the day off.  It kind of marks the beginning of Fall, although Fall doesn’t REALLY arrive for a few more weeks. In human “fashion trends”, it used to be said that people shouldn’t wear white pants after Labor Day.  I don’t know if my human really cares about the trends, but if she does, the FG will be SO disappointed.  WHERE will he wipe his wet face after taking a drink?  White pants are THE best.

Today the FG returns to the beauty pageant.  All by himself.  I’m not sure how he’ll be able to function without us there with him. But we will  be thinking of him while we chew on marrow bones and perform our guard duties at home.

And speaking of the home front, we had a giggle about some FG behaviour the other day.  Remember how we got the new roof?  And how my human then felt she needed to change the colours of the shutters on the house?  And she needed to paint the trim?  As is typical of my human – she started doing it the other day – after 7PM.  Well, guess what?  It gets dark earlier now.  So she was working in the dark.  Part of the painting involved the front screen door.  The door she had actually considered removing because a.) it is so warped from us busting through it and b.) the screen is also torn – also compliments of us..  But she figured it might somehow look better if it was painted.  Don’t ask me why.  So she painted the thing in the dark, and not only did she paint the exterior, she painted the interior.  And because it was so late, we had to use a different door when we went out for our nightly pee.  No big deal.

Fast forward to the next day and Einstein and I go out for our  morning constitutional.  We walk through the door which has changed in colour from white to dark grey.  We don’t even notice.  Then it’s the FG’s turn to go out.  My human opens the main door and the FG stops and jumps backward when he sees the newly painted door.  He even gives it a big “boof.” My human had to do some cajoling to get him to come through the door and he looked over his shoulder when he made it through.   On the way back in, all was now fine.  Honestly, ya gotta love this guy – he is a constant source of entertainment.

Well time to go perform guard duties.  We wished the FG luck and told him to save some of the yummy treats for us.  Einstein and I are planning to paint the door again while he’s gone…

Have a good one.  Peace and paws up!
