Today, May 4 is Bird Day. I like birds.
I would like to catch one if I could. But like the bunnies – so far no
luck.
We have LOTS of birds around our house –
including the odd eagle! You don’t see
them very often – but they are around.
I’m afraid they might pick me up and carry me away. Frodo thinks I’m crazy. I mean, when is the last time you saw an
eagle carrying a 50 lb dog? It would no
doubt be a viral You Tube video – but I don’t want it to be me!
But the BIG news about birds – we heard the
REAL sign of spring yesterday. The loons
have returned to our lake – and we heard them calling. It is the coolest sound. The only thing about the loons – my human is
signing up to take part in a loon study.
Seriously. She was supposed to do
it a couple of years ago and as soon as she got all the info in the mail, the
loons disappeared. I swear they KNEW she
was looking for them. She would go down to
the lake in the morning looking for them – and no loons. She would go down in the evening. No loons.
She went out in the kayak looking for them. No loons.
Mind you – IF she goes out in the kayak, we stand on the deck and bark
like loon-atics. We probably scared
every living thing within a 50 mile radius.
She FINALLY did spot two loons one day when she was in the kayak. And they dove under water. She thought it was cool at first. Then she remembered back to that old horror
movie, “The Birds” which she saw as a kid and she started worrying that they
might come and tip over her kayak.
Seriously. Sometimes I wonder
about my human. Good thing we keep
her. I doubt any other dog would adopt
her.
Anyway, the loons are back – so spring
REALLY, REALLY is here!
So, go out today and take a minute to looks
at the birds! It’s their day!

This is my third try to write to you Viktor. So glad you can hear the Loons. All we hear are the peepers. Between you and me Viktor, sometimes I wonder about your human.
