May 24.
On this day in 1988, John Moschitta set a record as the World’s Fastest
Talker at 586 words per minute. The record has subsequently been broken –I
was sure it was my human who had the record – but it’s not.
This record setting thing made me start exploring the kinds
of records that dogs have set. Oh there are the typical records for smallest (a
little Chihuahua 3.8 inches tall) and the tallest (a Great Dane at 44 inches
tall) and largest -which was like some dog from millions of years ago who
weighed 374 lbs. That one I’m a bit more
skeptical about. I mean – that’s like
three times the size of Bucket Head.
Imagine the size of THAT poop bag.
Then there are more unique records like
most jump rope skips by a dog in one minute – held by a Border Collie/Kelpie
cross. The record is 91. I’m wondering if I could beat this one. Nah.
Too much work.
The highest jump cleared by a dog was a
Greyhound who jumped 68 inches. That’s
almost as high as I jump while waiting for my food dish each night.
The fastest time for a dog to weave
between 60 poles is 12.14 seconds by, a German Shepherd. I COULD try for this one, but nah – again –
too much work.
The loudest bark by a dog measured
113.1 dB and was produced by golden retriever.
I’m thinking Frodo could get something in this category – maybe not
loudest, but do they have a record for most continuous?
The fastest 30 m on a scooter by a dog
was achieved in 20.77 seconds. He was a
Briard!! I wonder if I can convince my
human to get me a scooter…
This one caught my eye – and I think
THIS could be the one for me: The most bank notes removed from a wallet by a
dog in one minute – was 6. It was
achieved dog who was a cross between a Shih Tzu and a Japanese Chin. How hard is THAT to do?
So I have to start thinking about what
records I could break? Most barking at rabbits in one day? Most attempts to
break into the garage where the dog food is stored? Most time spent licking another dog’s
ears?
SURELY I can set some kind of
record….just let me think about it.
